After his worldtitle he changed his career, just like some other famous Taekwondo fighters such as Stephen Tapilatu and Mark Weir, to fighting in MMA competitions.
In 2006 he won an MMA fight against one of the greatest Taekwondo competitors from England: Mark 'the iceman' Weir. He finished the match by means of TKO in just over 50 seconds.
Zelg fought some very famous fighters in the most well known organisations, such as: Pride, K-1 and DREAM. In 2009 he lost a match against the legendary Japanese fighter 'the Gracie Hunter' Kazushi Sakuraba.
In 2008 ITF organised the Pro Taekwondo Circuit – based on ITF rules, but allowing full-contact and KO – and this event was won by the Croation Zelg hailing from the hometown of Pula.
